Thanks to Bernicia, they are playing a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the Futures initiative to Dukes Secondary School. This partnership highlights Bernicia’s commitment to nurturing the potential of young people in the region, preparing them to thrive in both their personal and professional lives.
The Futures Programme is a dynamic, six-part course focused on building emotional intelligence for participants aged 14 and up. It aims to develop critical life skills, including resilience, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.
These skills not only prepare students for future careers but also enhance their everyday lives, equipping them to lead happier, more fulfilling, and prosperous lives.
By backing the Futures Programme, Bernicia and the Newcastle Rugby Foundation are investing in a brighter future for the North East. Supporting young people in their personal development helps them become resilient, contributing members of society, which in turn strengthens local communities.
Luke Dargie from Bernicia shared his thoughts on the programme, saying: “The Futures Programme offers essential resilience training to young people in Northumberland.
“When they encounter setbacks—whether in their careers or personal lives—they’ll have the coping skills to persevere and keep moving forward.”
Feedback from participants has been positive. One student shared: “I’ve learned the importance of taking care of my emotions and prioritising self-care.
“The programme pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it was engaging and enjoyable too.”
