Six months into our partnership with NorthStandard, the positive impact on our CAST Programme has been remarkable. Their support has opened doors for people across our community who may otherwise have been unable to volunteer due to financial barriers.
By funding key participation costs, such as travel and training, and NorthStandard has helped ensure that volunteering with the CAST Programme is accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstance. This support has empowered more local people to gain skills, confidence, and experience through rugby-based community initiatives that bring people together and create lasting social change.
Established in 2018 the CAST, acts as the friendly face of the Newcastle Rugby Foundation on match days. Recognisable by their bright blue uniforms, volunteers come from all walks of life and play an essential role in ensuring match days run smoothly for fans.
Open to everyone, the CAST is a support network that helps people grow, particularly those who may face barriers such as anxiety, disabilities, or social isolation. Many participants, including students from our HITZ programme, have gained confidence, built friendships, and developed the life skills needed to succeed beyond rugby thanks to their time in the CAST.

It’s a brilliant example of how local businesses can make a real impact by investing in their community and helping people reach their potential.”
This partnership exemplifies how collaboration between local businesses and community organisations can drive meaningful change. Together with NorthStandard, the Foundation is strengthening its volunteer network and supporting individuals to develop valuable life and employability skills through sport.
