Former Newcastle stars head to the Alps for Meet Your Mountain: The Rugby Battle

Six Newcastle legends are swapping the pitch for the peaks this week, taking on a brutal alpine endurance challenge in Chamonix to raise money for Newcastle Rugby Foundation and Restart.

This is no ordinary hiking challenge.

From Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th October, former Newcastle players Alex Tait, Will Welch, Alex Rogers, Daniel Temm, Noah Cato and Mark Wilson will head to Chamonix for Meet Your Mountain: The Rugby Battle, an unforgettable endurance event from CHX Challenge, run in partnership with Restart, the Rugby Players Association’s official charity, and club foundations across the game.

Over two gruelling days in the mountains, the team will climb an incredible 4,000m of altitude, the equivalent of 1.5 times the height of the British Three Peaks. As if that wasn’t enough, they’ll also take on a 60km ultramarathon across rugged alpine trails.

A battle for the summit

The Newcastle team won’t be going it alone. They’ll go head to head with seven other teams from across the PREM and PWR, all battling to reach the summit, raise as much as possible for charity and climb the fundraising leaderboard.

Rugby rivalries don’t stop when the boots are hung up, and the lads are determined to fly the flag for Newcastle at the top of the table.

Why it matters

Every pound raised will help Restart provide vital mental, physical and financial support to current and former rugby players when they need it most. Funds will also support the work of Newcastle Rugby Foundation, using the power of rugby to improve health and wellbeing, education and opportunity across our communities.
