Newcastle Rugby Foundation are delighted to announce that they have secured an incredible £18,800 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

This funding is a huge leap forward as it allows them to expand their Learning Disability team to include support for children aged 8-13. It’s a bold step in their mission to create inclusive opportunities that empower young people with learning disabilities to thrive.

Funding and Development Manager Darren Greco expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone, saying: “This funding is a game-changer for us. It allows us to extend our reach and provide vital support to younger children with learning disabilities. We’re incredibly grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and its players for believing in our vision.”

The National Lottery Community Fund supports projects that make a meaningful impact on communities across the UK. By awarding this grant, they have recognised the importance of the foundation’s work in empowering individuals with learning disabilities and their families. This funding will help them:

  • Extend services to younger age groups, ensuring early intervention and support.
  • Provide tailored activities and resources that cater specifically to the needs of children under 14.
  • Strengthen community connections and promote inclusivity through collaborative initiatives.

Research shows that early intervention can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with learning disabilities and their families. By expanding services to younger children, the foundation aims to address challenges at an earlier stage, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive.

Starting Monday March 3 from 5-6pm, sessions will run every Monday at Tyneside Badminton Centre. From the March 31 sessions will move to Kingston Park.

Children aged 8-13 years old are welcome to participate. We also encourage families to visit the centre beforehand to explore the facilities and get a feel for what’s in store.

What’s included?

  • A welcoming environment where parents can stay on-site during sessions.
  • An opportunity to learn new skills and rugby themed games in an inclusive environment.
  • Opportunities to represent Newcastle Rugby Foundation and Newcastle Falcons.
  • Exciting trips away for team-building and fun experiences.
