Newcastle Rugby Foundation is proud to announce the launch of our Futures programme in partnership with Newcastle College. This exciting initiative, which began in January 2025 and is currently being delivered on Mondays and Tuesdays at the College, is designed to equip participants with the tools they need to succeed in their future careers—whether in sport or beyond.
What is the Futures Programme?
Pioneered by former rugby star Tony Underwood and co-authored by acclaimed coach Lysa Morrison alongside former double Olympian Chris Cook, the Futures programme is a unique opportunity for students at Newcastle College to gain real-world experience and insights on emotional intelligence, self-awareness and self-belief through fun interactive workshops and discussions.
Futures is designed for young people who are not currently realising their potential due to a range of factors including a lack of confidence, lack of positive role models and other social and emotional needs.
Why We’ve Launched Futures
At Newcastle Rugby Foundation, we believe in making rugby+ the positive difference that changes lives for good. Through our partnership with Newcastle College, we are able to extend our reach and impact, helping young people to develop confidence, resilience, and leadership skills. By engaging with experienced coaches, industry professionals, and guest speakers, participants gain a well-rounded experience that goes beyond the sport itself.
What We Hope to Achieve
The primary goal of the Futures programme is to inspire and empower young people by providing them with meaningful pathways for personal and professional growth. By the end of the programme, participants will have:
- Enhanced their rugby skills through expert coaching and structured training sessions.
- Developed key employability skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
- Gained a deeper understanding of career opportunities within sport and the wider community sector.
- Built strong connections with mentors and industry leaders who can support their future aspirations.
