Northumberland Rugby Union Development Programme
Newcastle Rugby Foundation is proud to work in partnership with Northumberland Rugby Union to deliver a collaborative Rugby Development Programme that inspires more young people to discover and enjoy the game.
Together, we’re building stronger connections between schools and local rugby clubs, and creating a clear pathway for children to continue their rugby journey beyond the classroom. Through fun, inclusive and engaging sessions, the programme introduces pupils to the sport while nurturing the values that make rugby so special — sportsmanship, courage, teamwork, respect, and care.
By working hand in hand with Northumberland Rugby Union, we’re ensuring that every young person, no matter their background or ability, has the opportunity to pick up a ball, make new friends, and grow both on and off the pitch.
A Sport That Builds Confidence, Character and Community
Rugby is more than just a game, it’s a place where children discover what they’re capable of, build lifelong friendships, and grow in confidence both on and off the pitch. Through our partnership with Northumberland Rugby Union, we’re encouraging young people of all ages and abilities to pick up a ball and experience everything this brilliant sport has to offer.
For children, rugby is a chance to run, play, learn new skills and feel part of a team where everyone has a role. For parents, it’s a sport that teaches the values we all want for our young people: sportsmanship, teamwork, courage, respect and care. Whether your child is already active or looking for something new, rugby offers a welcoming, positive environment that supports physical health, emotional wellbeing and personal growth.
With fun, inclusive sessions in schools and clear pathways into friendly local clubs, there has never been a better time to give rugby a try. Every child, no matter their background, ability or experience, is invited to join the rugby family and discover a sport built on belonging, character and community.
Our Partner Clubs Across Northumberland
We work with a number of fantastic rugby clubs across Northumberland to deliver first-class coaching, inclusive opportunities, and long-term pathways into the game. Our relationships with these clubs are built on years of collaboration, shared values, and a joint commitment to giving every young person the chance to experience rugby in a safe, supportive and inspiring environment.
Because these partnerships run deep, families can trust that the pathway from school to club is seamless, welcoming and built around the needs of each child. Whether a young person is taking their very first steps into rugby or looking to continue their journey at a community club, our partner clubs provide friendly coaches, high-quality sessions, and a positive atmosphere where players can grow, learn and belong.
